LOL L8R BRO. It feels every bit as quick as any WRX I have driven (Although the last un modified one I have driven was a 2010). Still it is noticeably faster/quicker . The power comes on super smooth, very sneaky when you gas it from low RPM . When I first pulled out I mashed on it and thought “hmph that didn’t feel like much, how fast am I....oh shit”

Kinja'd!!!

I took the same route too and from the dealer. 30 miles mixed driving, 26.3mpg on the way out 31.2mpg on the way home! , I drove about the same...normal driving, couple blasters. Could be elevation/traffic change but I have NEVER seen 30mpg plus from anything but a long highway trip.

Power delivery/turbo engagement make the car a lot more comfortable to drive normally, and a lot more fun to drive quickly. When I got close to home I went around the block and really gave it the beans twice...the AVERAGE dipped to 24mpg....Verdict if you are a normal driver it will probably make your mpgs the same or better. If you are not it will mpgs will drop dramatically, haha.

I really had to pee and have to do some work so I really haven’t had time to get the real feel. I’m now getting tire noise as I mash the gas pedal around turns and it’s not just from taking the turns wrong, it’s from the POWA!

Could you share the power and torque gains? and if the peak RPMs have changed?

Stock: 1 70 HP and 200 lb-ft of torque

Tuned: 234 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque

Here is the map for the 1.8 EA888 Stage 1 87 octane tune

Been considering getting either the APR tune or the Cobb/eqt tune for my GolfR.

Does it feel like it’s worth the cost?

INB4 You are deep into Stage 3, Golf R Turbo and LSD.

Might be time to check out an APR tune for our 16' GTI. Not too scared of the conservative “Stage 1" setup which is still a noticeable bump. Ran a tune on my FR-S for 35K miles and on the Z4M for 45K miles now.

Set back the better part of $1K? Just not sure the wife cares and she is behind the wheel the most.

Big fan of Cobb on Subarus. Definitely worth the cost to me. I have spent more on exhaust systems that added no/very little power. The extra cost for the warranty is the only part I might regret if I continue on down the tuning path, haha. On the other hand, if anything does happen I will be glad that I sprung for it.

Lol, I will make sure to re visit this thread when I get there. This was supposed to be the one car I don’t “play” with.

My mom is going to have it done on her 19GTI so I will post about that as soon as that is done .

My dad backed out on the SQ5...The tune is a lot more expensive, you have to ship out the ECU. On top of that dealer doing the flash is a VW dealer, not an Audi dealer. So while I have the benefit of taking it back to the shop that tuned it if something really bad happens, my father would have to play monkey in the middle with two dealers and APR and one of those dealers would be singing the “BYE GUY YOU TUNED YOUR CAR” song.

Yep, $600 for the tune, $400 for the warranty, $65 for the flash.

Those are some seriously impressive gains for a stage one tune on 87. I’ve been really impressed with what tuners and even OEMs can achieve on regular gas lately.

I’ll be awaiting the feedback! Not as worried about warranty and all that, car is not returning to a dealer ever.

Yeah, keeping 87 is a real selling point on a dd too.

Damn, so you’re practically getting a GTI wagon. On 87 Octane that too.

Id be curious about the stock numbers on that graph, if they’re APRs run of a stock car or data from VW. When the mkVII came out and APRs intake showed mammoth gains, people were skeptical. APR came out and said their  numbers were legit, but that vw underrated the car from the factory. Even they said “hell no, our intake doesn’t g ain 50hp.” (maybe a chip, not an intake, but you get my point). I trust APRs final numbers, but not VWs initial numbers.

Has anyone performed any studies as to how this affects the cars long-term? The EFI engineers at the oem must spend years perfecting a tune, I wonder what sacrifices/ oversights APR and others are making in order to bump power. A great example I have is that BMW runs their 4 cylinder turbos richer at idle under certain conditions in order to heat the cats to a certain temperature. I imagine some may lean them out to bump power but that may affect other variables.

Hmm yeah good point. It does appear they’re not against using vws numbers for their marketing though.

At the end of the day, though, I believe APRs final numbers, and they are impressive

Yeah, uh just ask the professionals over at VW Vortex...lol Just kidding. T here are some you tube peeps that have done long term reviews on various tunes, but I doubt there is any substantial/reliable data. Also, most people that will go for a tune would, do,  and will continue to mod beyond it, further skewing the limited data.
